RE: 2009 Excel

It's finally starting to look like other high end 5er's (ours included). I do like their placement of the water filter over where DT put's there's.
They have looked like all the other high end coaches for years. You just have to equip them high end when you order them. Most people see run of the mill dealer stock when they go to RV shows.

RE: Another Calgon question....Sorry

Most any IGA grocery store will order a case of it for you. A case lasts me about 6-8 months full timing.

RE: Cheapest Brand 5er

All brands are made as cheap as they can for profit. If they are not made cheap or made in Mexico, they go out of business. Some are cheaper than others. People will tell you the brand they bought is the best, just because they bought it. It makes them feel better about what they bought.
Surely you don't really believe this.

RE: Pivot EZ Sewer Hose???

Per Peterson Industries. The Pivot-EZ is an Excel exclusive and is not marketed separately for use on other RVs. Sorry folks I guess if you want one and they are nice, you will just have to get an Excel.:B
I saw the same thing in camping world a few weeks ago. :B
Actually, I don't think that you did. The Pivot-EZ head is welded to the Excel's frame and is manufactured by Peterson Industries for their own use only.

RE: Teton vs. Escalade

In my opinion The KZ Escalade is not even in the same league as Teton. I don't see how you can compare them. I am not saying that the KZ is not a nice trailer, they just are not comparable. MTCW

RE: Mobile Suites or Teton

Teton. IMO MS is not even in the same league. To clarify something in ronlitton's post, Excel Limited has a walk anywhere honeycomb two piece fiberglass roof .500" thick.. Having compared both, I feel that the Excel is a better value for the money with very comparable amenities an construction. MTCW

RE: odor coming from furnace

OK let me put it another way. If the heat exchanger has a hole in it you will smell the fumes from the combustion of the LP gas. The carbon monoxide will also be getting into the coach and it can kill you.

RE: odor coming from furnace

Velvet,
Be very careful here! If your furnace's heat exchanger has hole in it, the fumes you are smelling could be a carbon monoxide. Do not use this furnace until you are sure that this is not the problem.

Truck and trailer = 58ft
Truck, Trailer and 12 ft utility trailer = 72 ft.
Maximum leagal limit for length in Texas is 65' and DPS will stop you.

RE: Excel or mid-range

Speaking from experience, you would most likely never be sorry if you purchase an Excel, new or used. Just to clarify something stated in one post in this thread, it is not the wood construction alone that makes an Excel heavy, it's many things including a super strong box tube frame. There is very little difference in weight (less than 500#) between wood framing and aluminum. Good luck and happy camping with whatever you decide on.

RE: Pivot EZ Sewer Hose???

Excel's Pivot-EZ ensures you'll never have to disconnect your hose from the RV and the hose stores in the PVC tube for travel. It is very practical and works flawlessly.

RE: winter trips and heat

I'm still just in the market for a 5ver. It'll be my first RV. So excuse my ignorance but was looking at this thread and didn't see anyone mention how their furnace was powered while on the road. I thought they needed electricity.
Do you crank your generator and let it run?
Runs on the 12v system and propane.

RE: some questions on various brands

What is your definition of "extreme" cold? Extreme to me is minus 10 and below. Don't know of any recreational vehicle that will keep you warm without burning gallons and gallons of fuel. If you are talking of 20-30 degree(above 0) weather than there are a few that will work but still require a hefty fuel use. Brands that come to mind are Doubletree, Teton, Newmar, New Horizon. And those will still require the Arctic package and double pane windows. We have lived in our Teton down to 5 below and were comfortable enough inside in shirtsleeves, though the furnaces did cycle quite often.
Personally, I think Excel belongs in this list, but could be I'm biased.
